Celebrating Two Exceptional Members of Team Wheeler

We are delighted to share that Sharon Wardell and Rachel Gray have been recognised by The Thrive Partnership for their exceptional relationship-building practice and their dedication to supporting children and families at Wheeler Primary School.

Their recognition was celebrated at a special event held at The Guildhall on 3rd July 2026, honouring school staff who make a positive difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people across the city.

Wheeler Award

The nomination perfectly captures the impact Sharon and Rachel have on our school community:

“Sharon and Rachel work tirelessly to ensure that every child in the school is seen and heard and has a smile on their faces every day. They pick up the pieces when a child is sad, angry or in chaos. They are constantly seeking ways to support our community - sourcing hampers and toys at Christmas, arranging clothing for families in need and being the go to face for many families in their moments of distress. They are not just there for the children, but has often provided a shoulder or ear for myself during tough times. They are the backbone of Wheeler and the day to day of the school would not run without them. They deal with wellbeing issues within the school, behaviour management, the friendly face when a child is in distress and also support in class when teachers need that extra person. Their job often goes without thanks or praise and the role often sees them dealing with negative behaviours or attitudes but they do it day in day out without a single complaint. This would be a lovely way to thank them for the hard work. We would be lost without them.”

This recognition is thoroughly deserved and reflects the care, compassion and commitment that Sharon and Rachel demonstrate every single day.

Congratulations, Sharon and Rachel, and thank you for everything you do for the children, families and staff at Wheeler Primary School. We are incredibly proud of you both.
