Young Writers Shine at Special Wassand Hall Celebration

Our talented Year 6 writing competition winners from across the Trust enjoyed a truly memorable day at the beautiful Wassand Hall, celebrating their outstanding achievements in creative writing.

With glorious sunshine providing the perfect backdrop, the children took part in three inspiring workshops designed to spark their imagination and creativity. They began by creating expressive doodle artwork inspired by The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, led by the incredibly talented Charlotte Eldrid, who specialises in doodle art. This was followed by a stunning watercolour workshop with Phil White where the children explored different painting techniques to create their own beautiful pieces of art.

The day concluded with an immersive creative writing workshop in the enchanting Secret Garden, led by Mrs Altoft from Brandesburton Primary School. Following a series of mysterious clues hidden throughout the garden, the children imagined what magical events might unfold there after dark, producing some wonderfully imaginative writing!

To round off the celebration, every child received a commemorative medal, a poem and a delicious bun to take home. One overall winner was also presented with a signed print by the renowned author and illustrator Charlie Mackesy!

The event even attracted the attention of BBC Radio Humberside, who visited Wassand Hall to interview staff and children about the special day and the importance of nurturing young writers!

We are incredibly proud of every child who represented their school with such enthusiasm, creativity and confidence. Their imagination, resilience and love of writing shone throughout the day, making it a wonderful celebration of literacy across HCAT.
